COVID-19 in Kenya: 750 new cases, two deaths, 215 recoveries

750 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Kenya out of a sample size of 6,264 tested in the last 24 hours.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the total cases are now 111,935.

“Cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,358,390. From the cases 702 are Kenyans while 48 are foreigners. 411 are males and 339 are females. The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 100,” he said in a statement on Friday.

215 patients have since recovered from the disease: 122 from the Home Based and Isolation Care while 93 are from various health facilities. Total recoveries now stand at 88,209.

Two patients however succumbed to the disease pushing the cumulative fatalities to 1,901.

A total of 632 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while E,9E2 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

96 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 23 of whom are on ventilatory support and 59 on supplemental oxygen. 14 patients are on observation.

Another 40 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 38 of them in the general wards and 2 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

In terms of county distribution of the new cases, Nairobi reported 394 cases, Kiambu 85, Nakuru 53, Mombasa 22, Murang’a 22, Kajiado 20, Meru 17, Uasin Gishu 17, Busia 15, Kericho 12, Kilifi 11, Machakos 11, Turkana 10, Kakamega 9, Kisumu 8, Laikipia 7, Nyandarua 7, Makueni 6, Trans Nzoia 5, Siaya 3, Garissa 3, Kwale 2, Kisii 2, Bomet 2, Bungoma 2, Embu 1, Homa Bay 1, Mandera 1, Nandi 1 and Narok 1.

In terms of sub county distribution, the 394 cases in Nairobi are from Westlands (60), Dagoretti North (44), Kibra (25), Embakasi West (23), Lang’ata and Makadara (22) cases each, Kamukunji and Roysambu (21) cases each, Embakasi South (20), Kasarani (19), Embakasi East and Mathare (18) cases each, Starehe (17), Embakasi Central and Ruaraka (16) cases each, Dagoretti South and Embakasi North (14) cases each.

In Kiambu the 85 cases are from Thika (27), Ruiru (19), Juja (13), Kiambu Town (11), Kiambaa (7), Githunguri (3), Kikuyu and Limuru (2) cases each, Kabete (1). In Nakuru the 53 cases are from Nakuru East (23), Nakuru West (10), Gilgil (9), Nakuru North (7), Naivasha (3) and Njoro (1).

In Mombasa the 22 cases are from Mvita (11), Nyali (8), Jomvu, Kisauni and Likoni (1) case each. In Murang’a the 22 cases are from Kiharu (16), Gatanga, Kandara and Maragua (2) cases each.

In Kajiado the 20 cases are from Kajiado East (11), Kajiado North (5) and Kajiado Central (4). In Meru the 17 cases are from Imenti North (15), Buuri and Imenti Central (1) case each.

In Uasin Gishu the 17 cases are from Ainabkoi (5), Kapseret (4), Moiben (3), Kesses and Soy (2) cases each, Turbo (1). In Busia the 15 cases are from Teso North (9) and Matayos (6). In Jericho the 12 cases are all from Ainamoi.

In Kilifi the 11 cases are from Kilifi North (8), Kaloleni (2) and Malindi (1). In Machakos the 11 cases are from Athi River (10) and Machakos (1). In Turkana all the 10 cases are from Turkana West.

In Kakamega the 9 cases are from Lugari, Malava and Mumias West (2) cases each, Likuyani, Lurambi and I tatungu (1) case each. In Kisumu all the 8 cases are from Kisumu Central.

In Laikipia all the 7 cases are from Laikipia East. In Nyandarua the 7 cases are from Kinangop (5) and Ol Kalou (2).

In Makueni all the 6 cases are from Kibwezi West. In Trans Nzoia all the 5 cases are from Kiminini. In Siaya the 3 cases are from Alego Usonga (2) and Gem (1) while in Garissa all the 3 cases are from Dadaab.

The 2 cases in Kwale are all from Lunga Lunga, the 2 cases in Kisii are all from Kitutu Chache South, the 2 cases in Bonnet are all from Bomet East and the 2 cases in Bungoma are from Bumula and Kabuchai (1) case each.

The case in Embu is from Manyatta, the case in Homa bay is from Rangwe, the case in Mandera is from Mandera East, the case in Nandi is from Mosop and the case in Narok is from Narok North.
