Court of Appeal judge Warsame in the soup over bribery claims
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has received a petition seeking the removal of Justice Mohammed Warsame.
The petitioner, Wardere Mohamud Bule, has accused Justice Warsame of alleged bribery and breach of judicial code of conduct.
He further claims that Justice Warsame received bribery money from lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi for onward transmission to his colleagues in the Court of Appeal to influence outcome of the cases before the court.
Last year, Parliament was keen on blocking Warsame’s appointment to the JSC. According to the MPs, the judge needed to appear before the vetting committee and not bypass the set out procedure.
The claims of bribery against Justice Warsame come in the wake of another petition seeking the removal of four Supreme Court judges.
They are alleged to have violated the Constitution during the Wajir gubernatorial petition.
According to the JSC, the petition implicates Justices Mohammed Ibrahim, Jackton Ojwang, Smokin Wanjala and Njoki Ndung’u.
The Supreme Court judges are also accused of gross misconduct as well as breach of the Judicial Code of Conduct and Ethics and Oath of Office.
In their statement on Wednesday March 13, 2019, the commission said they have also received complaints about nine magistrates and five of them were found guilty of gross misconduct.
