Class 6 pupil takes poison, dies after uncle beat him over Ksh.100

A Class Six pupil from Eshiruli Primary School in Khwisero is suspected to have drank poison after he was beaten for losing Ksh.100.

Ehiruli town was thrown into mourning after news spread of the death of Hebert Matano.

Reports indicate that the 14-year-old boy had been sent to an Mpesa shop to withdraw Ksh.100.

When he returned however, he neither had the money nor the phone.

He told his uncle that he had been robbed and that is when all hell broke loose.

The uncle and grandmother reportedly gave him a serious beating.

Neighbours told Citizen TV that they suspect it is this beating that led him to take poison.

Assistant chief Florence Afune said the child passed away in an ambulance from Ehinutsa dispensary that was headed to Butere County hospital where he had been referred to.

Afune said the family of the deceased has been ordered to report to Khwisero Police Station and record an official statement.

The body was taken to St Mary’s Hospital Mortuary in Mumias awaiting post-mortem.
