Churches Want An Overhaul Of Security System

The leaders led by Anglican Church Archbishop Eliud Wabukala and Catholic Church’s John Cardinal Njue said security agencies as currently constituted cannot be trusted with the nation’s security threats.

Speaking at a news conference, the leaders called for consultations to streamline the country’s security sector.

The statement was signed by five mainstream churches under the umbrella body of National Council of Churches of Kenya .

The clerics decried rising cases of terror killings which they said have taken a religious angle.

They revisited the Mandera County attacks that left 64 dead and added reorganization of the security sector was long overdue.

They urged their muslim counterparts to step up de-radicalization of the youth to defuse terror.
