Bungoma High School dormitory razed in dawn inferno

Students from Bungoma High School on Friday morning reportedly burned their dormitory down,.

This makes it a total of seven schools to be razed down in Bungoma County within a span of one week.

They include Chesamisi High; Kimilili Boys; Ndivisi Boys; Khasoko Boys; Bukembe Boys and Mbakalo Boys.

Students at the schools went on rampage destroying property and setting their dormitories ablaze.

On Friday, the Bungoma High School fire broke out at about 5am when students were having their morning classes.

No student was hurt in the fire but all their belongings including mattresses, uniforms and books were destroyed.

The cause of the fire is yet to be conclusively established.

Bungoma County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti, County Director of Education Philip Chirchir and officials arrived at the school on Friday to begin investigations.

Robinson Kisunia, a parent, called on Education CS George Magoha to address the situation that he said has become alarming.

He attributed the cause of unrest in Bungoma to new school heads who according to him come with strict measures and do not want to listen to student grievances.

Kisunia who is parent at Chesamisi and Bungoma Boys said that some schools have also given prefects too much power that they tend to abuse it forcing students to go on the rampage.
