Boinett says Nyumba Kumi initiative a good security model

The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett says that the Nyumba Kumi security model will help the country fight terror attacks.

Speaking during a validation workshop for the National Task Force on Community Policing held at the KWS Training Institute in Naivasha, Boinett added that research had proven that the system was key in the reduction of crime.

Boinett noted that the dream of securing Kenya will only succeed if Kenyans embraced the concept and worked together towards the realization of peaceful country through a well and elaborate community policing structure.

The police boss urged all communities and Kenyans at large to take responsibility of their own safety and start implementing the program regardless of societal status.

The IG gave an example of Kikuyu police station in Kiambu County where crime levels have dropped significantly due to a well and elaborate community policing structure due to an enhanced collaboration between police and the residents

On the killing of a chief in Wajir County Sunday night, the police boss said they had opened investigations in order to establish whether the killing was linked to terror or it was an ordinary crime.

He called for patience saying that they have put in place all the necessary measures to ensure the country is safe especially in areas that are hard hit by terror activities like Garisa, Wajir, Mandera and even Lamu.
