‘Be assured of our full support in parliament’, Nyanza leaders tell Uhuru
Nyanza MPs led by John Mbadi have assured President Uhuru Kenyatta that they will fully support him in the national assembly.
The ODM national chairman said they will also not desert the President at the Senate even if legislators from his own community decide to do so.
“Even if his own brothers will leave him like Kimani Ichungwah, Ndindi Nyoro, Moses Kuria Alice Wahome, you will not hear of any single Luo MP even outside ODM who will betray the course that we have embarked on,” he said.
He stated that they will fully support the president in terms of legislation and his development agenda for the benefit of Kenyans.
Mbadi who is also the MP for Suba South dismissed those who have been claiming that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is illegal.
According to him, the BBI process cannot be illegal because a motion was drafted to that effect and taken for approval and adoption both at the National Assembly and the Senate.
“Immediately after the handshake, I got instruction from Baba (Raila Odinga) to take a motion to Parliament to approve the handshake, adopt it and anything subsequent to that is recognised by law. Jim Orengo moved a similar one in the Senate,” he said.
Mbadi made the remarks in Bondo constituency where Siaya Senator James Orengo lashed out at Deputy President William Ruto for embarking on early campaigns.
Orengo accused DP Ruto of sabotaging the government, noting that there is no way that he (Ruto) can be going round the country to popularise his presidential bid yet his boss is still in office.
“You cannot have a deputy who is already imagining that you’re outside office. Actually he started the campaign in 2013 lakini ya Mungu ni mengi…President Uhuru akamuona huyu kijana ana mambo tofauti ndio akashikana na Raila…handshake….na akasema Kenya is bigger than all of us,” Orengo said.
