Ban medics, teachers from going on strike Moses Kuria

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has proposed passing a law which makes it illegal for medical professionals and teachers from going on strike.

Mr. Kuria, who was speaking in Tharaka Nithi during a funeral service of area Governor Muthomi Njuki’s mother, said Members of Parliament should pass legislation banning medics and teachers as well as pilots from engaging in industrial action.

Kitu kama afya, mambo ya elimu, mambo kama ya wale watu wanaendesha ndege, tuweke sheria huko bunge  Bwana Spika hao watu tuseme hawawezi kugoma,” he said. (Things like health, education and pilots, we enact laws in Parliament Mr. Speaker so that those people cannot go on strike.)

His comments come in the wake of a three-week long nurses strike that has paralysed operations in most government and county hospitals across the country demanding better pay and working conditions.

The fiery legislature also rebuked the importation of eggs and fish from China and Uganda saying it is affecting local farmers.

Unataka kuniambia hapa Tharaka Nithi hatuwezi kuweka kuku ikataga mayai ndio tulete kuku kutoka China?” he posed. (Let us look into the welfare of the common man, I recently spoke about the importation of eggs, chickens and fish from China and Uganda and some thought I was fighting Munya (Trade and Industrialisation CS), no, you want to tell me we can’t rear chickens that lay eggs for us to import chickens from China?”

Amid the serious talk, the MP – who has announced his intention to run for President in 2022 – cracked a few ribs when he asked for votes from the mourners saying is confident of winning and ending up at State House.

Niko hapa kuomba kura zenyu nikiwa nasimama urais. Nataka kuwaomba kura mwaka wa 2022 jina yangu itakua pale kwa debe… utaweka tick na ndio mimi huyo naingia Ikulu na maisha inaendelea na nawafanyia kazi…”  he told the mourners. (I am here to ask for your votes as I am running for President in 2022. My name will be on the ballot so you will see my name, put a tick and I will get to State House and I will work for you.)
