Student who was arrested for shouting during Babu Owino case released
A student from the Kenya Institute of Management who was arrested for shouting in court during the hearing of Babu Owino’s case has been released.
During the hearing for the Babu Owino case on Monday, the student shouted “Be objective Bwana” as the prosecution was submitting its case.
When asked him why he shouted, Billy Graham said: “I did not mean to cause any disrespect. My act was out of ignorance, stupidity and over excitement. I regret that fact.”
The 23-year-old student had been arraigned before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.
He was however not charged with any offense.
The Nairobi Magistrate set him free saying that he had taken into account that the student admitted to being stupid and had learned from his mistake.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was on Monday released on a cash bail in the case where he is accused of shooting Felix Orinda popularly known as DJ Evolve.
In an unusual bail ruling, Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi directed that the Ksh.10million be paid in four installments over the next four months.
The lawmaker will be released after paying the first installment of Ksh.2.5 million.
The Magistrate noted that the first payment will be used to settle Orinda’s medical bill and the balance will serve as the MP’s bail.
The 25-year-old DJ is admitted at the Critical Care Unit at Nairobi Hospital where he is nursing a gunshot wound on the neck.
The court was told that at the moment, the victim cannot move his hands and legs.
His family has opposed the release of the lawmaker on bond/bail citing concern over the security of their son.
It is the family’s view that Babu Owino “wields a lot of power and may use the same to subvert justice.”
“Their plea to the court is that if the same is granted, other protective measures should be instituted to ensure the security of the victim, family and also to safeguard against witness interference,” the court was told.
