Board denies recall of anti-malaria drug from Kenyan market

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board has denied reports that an anti-malaria drug has been recalled from the Kenyan market.

The Board said Duo-Cotexcin is only under quarantine pending investigations after failing a quality test.

“No recall or withdrawal is being conducted for the above product. The Pharmacy and Poisons Board is undertaking investigations to ascertain the suspected quality defect on that specific batch No 160621,” a statement sent to newsrooms said.

On Thursday, an official from the Board had indicated that Duo-Cotexcin would no longer be imported or sold in the Kenyan market.

Ms. Jacinter Wasike, Director of Inspection, Surveillance and Enforcement told reporters in Kisumu that the move was due to safety concerns.
