After Mara heist expose over Walingo, acting VC holds first public event

Four weeks after the damning Mara heist expose on Citizen TV, the acting Vice Chancellor who replaced embattled Mary Walingo has appeared in public for the first time in his new capacity.

On Friday, Prof. Kitche Magak held a public lecture with new students at the Maasai Mara University in Narok.

The lecture, which was the first since he was appointed as the acting VC, focused on sexual immorality.

“I know you come from backgrounds where there were lots of restrictions. Here you are virtually on your own and if you do not manage this freedom properly, there will be tears at the end,” Prof. Kitche Magak said.

He urged the First Year students to prioritize moral uprightness and responsible reproductive health.

According to him, sexual immorality is a vice that has been thwarting the academic and health focus of various university students globally.

“I was at the university when the big deal was HIV/AIDS. That was the big deal and a lot of my friends did not graduate because they died. So, part of management of that freedom is how you are going to manage your sexuality,” Prof. Kitche Magak noted.

Prof. Magak will hold forte for Prof. Walingo for the next three months until investigations into claims of embezzlement of funds at Maasai Mara University are complete.

Prof Walingo is alleged to be the masterminded of wanton theft of Ksh.190 million from the university bank accounts.

Her driver Abdi Noor Hassan and the institution’s Finance Officer Anaclet Okumu have also been linked to the scandal that was exclusively aired on Citizen TV on September 1.
