8 year old raped and killed by uncle

Police are investigating an incident in which an 8 year old girl was raped and murdered allegedly by the 21 year old uncle in Butere, Kakamega County.

Velma Atsieno was found buried in a shallow grave in a sugarcane plantation.

Velma’s mother, Josephine Sumba, had sent her to pick a phone from the neighbor where it was charging.

The eight year old never returned and that is when the search began.

The child was not found anywhere in the neighborhood. On day two, their search yielded the unexpected.

Velma was dead, and accusing fingers pointed at Velma’s uncle who is currently in police custody.

Police are investigating the incident as Velma’s body lays at St Mary’s mortuary awaiting postmortem.

According to Butere OCPD Josephine Mbane, the accused will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are complete.
