7 suspects arrested for impersonating senior govt officer, socialites
Police have arrested seven suspects accused of defrauding members of the public by impersonating a senior government officer and socialites.
The seven; Joseph Waswa, Duncan Muchai, Isaac Wanyonyi, William Simiyu, David Luganya, Gilbert Kirunja and Antony Wafula were arrested on Saturday following an operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“Seven fraudsters who have been imitating a very senior govt officer and socialites to obtain money by false pretences were arrested today after an intense operation,” said the DCI.
The detectives recovered four vehicles including a Toyota Land Cruiser V8, Toyota Mark X and Toyota Axio that the suspects were allegedly using to run their activities.
According to police, the suspected fraudsters were mostly targeting the Indian community.
They are set to be arraigned in court on Monday to face charges of obtaining money by false pretense among other counts.
