22 matatu drivers arrested on Nakuru-Eldoret road for flouting COVID-19 rules

22 public service vehicle drivers and six boda boda operators were arrested at Makutano-Eldama. Ravine road on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The arrests are part of a major crackdown on those flouting COVID-19 rules as well as traffic regulations.

Traffic police also impounded several public service vehicles plying the Eldama. Ravine-Makutano, Nakuru-Eldama. Ravine and Emining-Eldama. Ravine roads.

Koibatek sub-county police boss Maxwel Agoro said the multi-agency team discovered that most drivers had no sanitizers or thermo guns to check temperature of passengers before boarding the vehicle.

He warned that the crackdown would continue until all health and traffic rules are adhered to.

Commander Agoro said those arrested were given police bond of Ksh. 5,000 each and are expected to appear in court to answer to charges.

Vehicles impounded during the operation were taken to Eldama. Ravine and Makutano police station paralyzing transport services on the said routes.
