17 more people dead as Kenya records 1,211 new COVID-19 cases

Seventeen more people have succumbed to the coronavirus in Kenya bringing the cumulative fatalities to 1,366.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Health also announced that 1,211 people have tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 9,304 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 76,404 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country.

“The cumulative tests are now 833,004. From the cases 1,169 are Kenyans and 42 are foreigners. 722 are males and 489 females. The youngest is a one-month old infant, while the oldest is 95,” reads the statement.

According to the Health Ministry, a total of 1,134 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,805 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 67 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 36 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 31 on supplemental oxygen. Another 77 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 73 are in the general wards and 4 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Meanwhile, 368 patients have recovered from the disease, 265 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 103 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total recoveries now stand at 51,352.

The 1,211 cases are distributed across the country as follows: Nairobi 410, Mombasa 102, Migori 93, Bungoma 79, Uasin Gishu 55, Kiambu 42, Nakuru 40, Kilifi 39, Nyeri 30, Kisumu 30, Busia 28, Laikipia 27, Turkana 26, Machakos 25, Meru 25, Kisii 24, Kajiado 21, Trans Nzoia 17, Kakamega 12, Nyamira 12, Homabay 11, Siaya 9, Narok 8, Kitui 7, Embu 5, Nandi 4, Kwale 4, Murang’a 4, Kericho 4, Garissa 4, Taita Taveta 3, Lamu 3, Elgeyo Marakwet 2, Isiolo 2, Tana River 2, Wajir 1, and Makueni 1.

In terms of Sub County Distribution; the 410 cases in Nairobi, are from Kibra (66), Lang’ata (44), Dagoretti North (34), Embakasi West and Westlands (30) cases each, Starehe (29), Embakasi Central (24), Ruaraka (22), Kamukunji (21), Dagoretti South (20), Makadara (19), Embakasi East, Embakasi North and Roysambu (15) cases each, Kasarani (10), Mathare (9), Embakasi South (7).

In Mombasa, the 102 cases are from Mvita (46), Jomvu (24), Kisauni (12), Nyali (9), Likoni (8) and Changamwe (3). In Migori, the 93 cases are from Rongo (33), Suna East (30), Kuria West (12), Nyatike (11) and Awendo (7). In Bungoma, the 79 cases are from Kanduyi (73), Kabuchai and Kimilili (2) cases each, Bumula and Mt Elgon (1) case each.

In Uasin Gishu, the 55 cases are from Ainabkoi (37), Turbo (6), Kesses (5), Kapseret (4) and Soy (3). In Kiambu, the 42 cases are from Thika (12), Kiambaa (8), Ruiru (6), Kiambu Town (4), Githunguri and Kikuyu (3) cases each, Juja, Lad and Gatundu South (2) cases each.

In Nakuru, the 40 cases are from Naivasha (15), Nakuru East (9), Nakuru North (6), Rongai (5), Gilgil and Nakuru West (2) cases each, Molo (1). In Kilifi, the 39 cases are from Malindi (18), Kaloleni (14) and Kilifi North (7).  In Nyeri, the 30 cases are from Mathira East (15), Nyeri Central (12) and Mathira West (3). In Kisumu, the 30 cases are from Kisumu Central (27), Kisumu East (2) and Nyakach (1).

In Busia, the 28 cases are from Matayos (12), Teso North (11), Teso South (5). In Laikipia, the 27 cases are from Laikipia East (21) and Laikipia West (6). In Turkana, the 26 cases are from Turkana Central and Turkana West (13) cases each.

The 25 cases from Machakos are from Athi River (13), Machakos Town (7), Kangundo (2), Kalama, Kathiani and Matungulu (1) case each. In Meru, the 25 cases are from Imenti North (20), Imenti South (4) and Buuri (1). In Kisii, all the 24 cases are from Kitutu Chache South.

In Kajiado, the 21 cases are from Kajiado East (10), Kajiado North (9) and Loitokitok (2). In Trans Nzoia, the 17 cases are from Kwanza (7), Kiminini (5), Saboti (3) and Cherangany (2).

In Kakamega, the 12 cases are from Lurambi (7), Mumias West (2), Malaya, Matungu and Navakholo (1) case each. In Nyamira, the 12 cases are from Nyamira Town (6), Manga and Masaba North (2) cases each, Borabu and Nyamira North (1) case each.

In Homabay, the 11 cases are from Homabay Town (8), Rangwe (2) and Suba South (1). In Siaya, the 9 cases are from Alego Usonga and Gem (4) cases each, Bondo (1). In Narok, all the 8 cases are from Narok North, while in Kitui, the 7 cases are from Kitui Central and Mwingi Central (3) cases each, Kitui South (1). In Embu, the 5 cases are from Runyenjes (3) and Manyatta (2).

The 4 cases in Nandi, are from Emgwen and Mosop (2) cases each, all the 4 cases in Kwale, are from Msambweni, the 4 cases in Murang’a, are from Kiharu (2), Kandara and Maragua (1) case each, all the 4 cases in Kericho, are from Ainamoi, while all the 4 cases in Garissa, are from Dadaab.

In Taita Taveta, all the 3 cases are from Voi, while all the 3 cases in Lamu, are from Lamu West. The 2 cases in Elgeyo Marakwet, are from Keiyo North, the 2 cases in Isiolo, are from Garbatulla and Isiolo Town (1) case each, while the 2 cases in Tana River, are from Bura and Gable (1) case each.
The case in Wajir is from Wajir East, and the case in Makueni, is from Makueni.
