14 guns collected as Matiangi orders all at Nairobi County Assembly disarmed

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has ordered the disarmament of everyone at the Nairobi County Assembly following a spate of violent altercations at the assembly.

At the same time, CS Matiangi announced that all the gun licenses of the people at the assembly have been suspended.

He was speaking during the launch of the National Police Service’s “From Force to Service Book” on Wednesday morning.

He noted that so far, 14 firearms had already been collected from the country assembly in the ongoing exercise.

“I have ordered police to disarm all around the county assembly, enough is enough, we cannot continue this way, do you want us to station a contigent of GSU officers outside the country assembly, we cannot do that,” he explained.

The latest follows a spate of dramatic events at the assembly with the most recent resulting in the hospitalization of Mlango Kubwa MCA.

Earlier on Tuesday Chaos once again rocked City Hall as a section of Nairobi Members of County Assembly attempted to storm Speaker Beatrice Elachi’s office.

The MCAs wanted to serve Elachi her impeachment motion notice, claiming they had collected 62 signatures.

They encountered a contingent of police who repulsed them injuring several county assembly members among them Mlango Kubwa MCA Mutheu Musyimi.
