Two held in connection to Sh360m cocaine haul

Police have arrested and are interrogating a Briton and two Kenyan nationals in connection with the seizure of a cocaine haul valued at Sh360 million at the Mombasa Port.

The special team of US anti-narcotics authorities and their Kenyan counterparts in Nairobi are jointly interrogating the suspects following the seizure of the drugs said to originate from Brazil last week.

A senior police officer privy to the probe says the drugs were last evening flown to Nairobi from Mombasa for safe custody, with the trio linked to a drug cartel from South America, especially Brazil.

The detectives are reported to have trailed the suspects and their cocaine consignment for months, with the drug shipment being labeled as sugar headed for Uganda from Venezuela.

The ship carrying the consignment was allowed to leave Mombasa Port because the drugs were seized after the consignment had been offloaded.

According to port documents, 18 containers were loaded onto the vessel, MSC Posetano, at Santos Port in Brazil on the 20th of June each loaded with 520 bags of sugar.
