PHOTOS: Tyler Perry Studios opens in Atlanta
Tyler Perry, a renowned American actor, producer and director opened a mega filming complex this weekend.
According to CNN, Typer Perry Studios stand on 330 acres of land in the McPherson area of Atlanta, Georgia.
The studio has 12 sound stages each named after black entertainers including Denzel Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith and more.
A Saturday night gala saw top Hollywood celebrities and even former U.S. President Bill Clinton and ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton grace the event.
Others include Oprah, Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z, Cicely Tyson, Sidney Poitier, renowned director Ava DuVernay among others.
Actress Kelly Rowland said on Instagram: ”I am so grateful to have witnessed Black Excellence, History, and Greatness!”
Her counterpart Halle Berry added: ”Last night was surreal-overwhelmed with pride for Tyler Perry, created of the first black owned major film studio in our HISTORY.”
CNN Entertainment reports that the newly launched complex has 12 sound stages, all named after respected black performers, it is said that it is one of the largest in the country.
That however is not all that is unique about the filming complex; it has been built on what used to be a confederate military base in the 1700s when the Americans were fighting for their independence.
The weekend long event included among many other things a Sunday church service.
