Meet the man who saved Jaguar

Top Kenyan musician Jaguar would probably be a lowly hawker if it were not for a man named Mr Gathigo, the artist revealed on Instagram.

The Kigeugeu singer lost his mother when he was in standard 8 and was taken in by his uncle Steve.

His relatives tried to take him back to school but one institution turned him away because he could not speak English.

“My auntie tried to take me back to school at Musa Gitau Primary but they refused and said I couldn’t speak English. The school was also very expensive,” Jaguar revealed.

Times were tough, so Jaguar begun selling water at Thogoto Shopping Centre. One day while he was out hawking, he spotted Magutuini Primary School.

“I met the headmaster at the gate and introduced myself and my story. This man listened to me and told me to enter class 7 and start learning. If it was it not for him and my Uncle Steve and Aunt Eunice I would have never gone back to school,” posted Jaguar.

Jaguar, whose real name is Charles Njagua Kanyi, traced the elderly teacher and conveyed his gratitude.

In April, Jaguar was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to the National Agency for the Campaign against Drug Abuse (Nacada) board as a member.

Having gone through a difficult childhood, Jaguar has been championing for youth entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

When my mum passed away i had just completed class 8 and didn't have someone to take me to high school…so i went to Kikuyu to live with my Uncle where i helped him with house chores….one day my auntie tried to take me bk to school at Musa Gitau pri bt they refused and said i couldn't talk english and also was very expensive for my uncle and his wife to pay for me…i started sellin water at Thogoto shopping center during the day when my guardin's were at work…one day i saw a school next to Thogoto teacher's college called Magutuini pri and decided to enter and try my Luck..i met the headmaster at the gate and introduced my self and my story and this man here with me in this pic listened to me and told me to enter class 7 and start learning..His name is Mr Gathigo…he changed my life and will forever thank God for him…was it not for him and my uncle steve and Eunice i would have never gone bk to school….went to look for him and Thank him..
