Bahati, manager Weezdom testify against Peter Blessing in Ksh.2M fraud case

The court tussle between musicians Kevin Mbuvi Kioko aka Bahati and his ex-signee Peter Mwanyalo aka Peter Blessing on Tuesday went a notch higher as the former and his manager Lawrence Munyao testified against the latter in a Ksh.2 million fraud case.

Appearing before Milimani Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi, Bahati said Peter Blessing signed a contract in 2019 to be nurtured musically by his EMB Record Label and promised to have all returns go to the stable, a deal he allegedly did not honor.

Bahati told the court that after taking care of all music and basic needs of the accused person, he went ahead to defy their contract by illegally leaving EMB Records.

“He has been earning through performances and getting other benefits from the music we recorded for him without our knowledge, this has caused us losses because we are yet to recover our expenditures on him,” said Bahati.

Taking to the witness stand also was Lawrence Munyao aka Weezdom, Bahati’s manager, who told the court that EMB Records used Ksh.2,039,000 on Peter Blessing hoping it would be recovered when he became his own brand, only for him to leave unceremoniously.

Munyao told the court that they only learned on blogs and from the media of Peter Blessing’s announcement claiming to have left EMB Records and gone independent.

Peter Blessing was charged that on diverse dates between July 4, 2019 and January 5, 2020 at EMB Records studios in Nairobi county, he obtained Ksh.2,039,00 from Bahati with intent to defraud by falsely pretending he was able to produce music with the said stable.

The case was adjourned to February 24, 2021 when an investigation officer will testify before the prosecution closes its case.
