What Emmy Kosgei said about Chelele brutal murder

As thousands bid feted Kalenjin musician Diana Chelele Musila farewell in Kapkwen, Bomet County, fellow singer Emmy Kosgei revealed that she had a sleepless night thinking about the Binti Osama singer.

In a lengthy sendoff message on her Facebook page, Kosgei revealed that Chelele’s brutal murder broke her heart.

“Today, we mourn as we lay to rest our sister ‪#‎DianaChelele. Her ordeal broke my heart. The night I listened to her weak emotional voice I couldn’t sleep…” started Kosgei.

Chelele was found murdered in her home earlier this month, and her mutilated body had deep panga cuts in the abdominal area. Though police investigations into the killing are yet to be concluded, fingers are pointed at Chelele’s estranged husband because of their history of domestic violence.

Touching on the slain singer’s marital woes, Kosgei said: “The plight that women go through in silence…domestic violence especially celebrities who have a lot to care for: a society that has demands, expectations and prejudice.”

Having lived in the limelight herself, the Taunet Nelel singer attempted to explain why celebrities stay in unhappy unions, even after the relationship has turned toxic.

“The pressure that makes them live a lie…protect an empty name that a third party has stolen from (them). She lost everything! Like many who have nothing to hold after all the singing done,” elucidated Kosgei.

Addressing her fans, the gospel musical lauded women who have spoken out against the vice saying: “It takes boldness to speak up, to move out, to unmask and risk all…to take your stand and follow your heart…I salute women out there who have boldly saved their lives & said enough is enough!”

In a society where divorce is frowned upon, many women suffer in abusive relationships.

To these women, Kosgei had these words to say: “In wanting to protect children, family, fame & name, women suffer in silence and end up depressed and opt for suicide, drugs, alcoholism as remedy!”

Being a minister of the gospel, the Kalenjin singer urged her fans to turn to Christ when faced with such difficulties.

“I want to urge my sisters out there: don’t lose yourself, be bold seek for help, be yourself and give your life to Jesus. God will fill the void in you nothing else! All is vanity without Jesus,” implored Kosgei.

Concluding her post, Kosgei called for justice.

“We pray that justice will prevail over the person behind this brutal cold blood murder! Help me say a word of condolence to her daughters and family.”

Her sentiments echo those of actress Barbra Chepkoech, popularly known as Waridi. Shortly after news of Chelele’s murder broke the US-based actress mourned her close friend in a lengthy and emotional Facebook post.

Chepkoech told of how close she was to the famed singer, and how Chelele stood with her through tough times. Reflecting on Chelele’s troubled marriage, Chepkoech urged women to walk out of abusive relationships.
