Uhuru wishes Kenyan beauty queen well in Miss World contest
President Uhuru Kenyatta got a visit from the newly crowned Miss World Kenya Charity Mwangi at the State House before she left for the Miss World contest over the weekend where the president wished her well.
The model had a brief session with Uhuru who assured her of his support and even signed it on paper.
Her predecessor, Idah Nguma, CEO of Ashleys Ltd, her parents, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Isiolo MP Tiyah Galgalo among others accompanied her to the meeting.
Mwangi will be continuing with her journey to represent the country in the Miss World contest, which is her next step.
The 22-year-old Kiambu beauty, who is an Agricultural Resource Management student, edged out 10 other contestants from various counties to take the Miss World Kenya crown.
The new beauty queen takes over from Idah Nguma, who emerged seventh overall during the Miss World finals held in London last year. This is a feat Kenya had not achieved in years.
The twenty-two-year old beauty queen left the country for China on Friday where she will battle it out with over 110 beauties from all over the world in order to claim the title.
The contest began Saturday and will run for a month.
The models will be staying at the Luxurious Beauty Crown Grand Hotel in Sanya, China Republic as they compete in a series of grueling activities.
The activities include Beauty with a Purpose (charity projects and selfless acts within the community), multimedia, sports and fitness, talent competition and a high profile catwalk where they will have an opportunity to show their modeling credentials and of course the most important one, the interview by the judges.
The range of the activities will in turn earn the contestants points, where the person who accumulated the highest points will take the crown.
The group will not only have a jam packed schedule of competitive activities but will also get an opportunity to experience the exotic wonders of Sanya and Hainan Island.
The World Final will take place on December 19th at the Beauty Crown Grand theatre.
The current Miss World is Rolene Strauss, a medical student from a small town in South Africa.
