RnB superstar Robyn Fenty, popularly known as Rihanna, has been designated a national hero of Barbados, following the country’s transition into a republic on Monday.

The Caribbean nation was previously ruled by Queen Elizabeth II despite gaining independence from Britain in 1966.

Barbados will consequently remain within the 54 Commonwealth nations despite the developments.

Prime Minister Mia Mottley conferred Rihanna with the honour of National Hero of Barbados much to the delight of the crowd that had gathered to witness the historical milestone in the nation’s capital Bridgetown.

According to Mottley, Rihanna’s musical pursuits have put the Carribean Island on the map and her hard work and dedication have transformed her into a global superstar that every nation would be proud to have as a citizen.

“We therefore present to you the designee for national hero of Barbados. Ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty. May you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honor to your nation by your words and your actions and do credit wherever you,” Mottley said in her address.

In her over decade long career, Rihanna has won 9 Grammy Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, 13 American Music Awards and 7 MTV Video Music Awards.

She is, in retrospect, one of the best selling artists of all time and also one of the few female musicians that Forbes has declared as a billionaire.

Her vast wealth partly comes from her music but majorly from her clothing brand, Fenty.
