'Quit the Trump like tactics,' Konshens fires at comedian Eric Omondi

Jamaican dancehall sensation Garfield Spence, better known as Konshens, has responded to a message by Kenyan controversial comedian Eric Omondi who appeared to be complaining about his (Konshens) upcoming tour to Kenya.

In his now typical fashion, Omondi took to Instagram on Thursday to insinuate that the anticipated performance by Konshens in Kenya on New Year’s Eve is a show of how “badly” the Kenyan music industry is doing.

“Honestly are we doing this badly? Is the State of our music Industry reeeealy this bad? I really have nothing against International artists, my heart is profusely bleeding for our industry,” Omondi posted in a caption along with a poster promoting the Konshens event.

The self-proclaimed president of comedy in Africa wondered why top Kenyan artists like Khaligraph, Otile Brown or Nyashinski would not join hands to host a mega event to entertain Kenyans on New Year’s Eve.

“You honestly want to tell me that a @khaligraph_jones @otilebrown @realshinski concert cannot pull crowds on the last day of the year😥😥😥😥. I have no problem with Konshens. My Issue is our own messaging! We are and have been killing our own! It's all in the messaging people, messaging is everything. So next week Kenyan artists will be unveiled as curtain raisers,” he stated.

In response, Konshens expressed his amusement at Omondi’s post, questioning why the funnyman was on a rant.

“Blessings my friend. I find this very interesting. Many people are sending your words to me. Would love to sit down and hear what exactly your issue is, are you upset with international artistes for loving your country? Local artistes and promoters for not doing enough shows? Local fans for showing too much love to international artistes or not showing enough support locally? Or what?” posed Konshens.

The 'Gal a Bubble' crooner called on Eric Omondi to quit the “Trump like” tactics and instead come out clean on what the real issue is.

Konshens went ahead to proclaim his love for Kenya stating that he was enthralled by the love from his Kenyan fans.

He pointed out that he had several offers for December 31 but chose Kenya because of the “raw vibe and energy there”.

“Nobody is broke at home waiting for Kenya to call lol, we just love your country and your people and they love us back. You should be direct with what your real issue is instead of these “Trump like” tactics. Let’s talk one day. Or maybe your just joking. But if ur serious let’s open a line,” said Konshens.

Omondi, who purports to be fighting for the rights of Kenyan artists, went ahead to respond to Konshens further lamenting about the long list of international artists lined up to perform in Kenya.

The comedian claimed Jamaican, Tanzanian and Nigerian artists had “totally and completely overpowered” Kenyan artists.

He described Kenyan artists as “lazy, redundant, dormant and lack the spirit and will to push or even do more or better!”

“Our local music Industry is dead, burried and rotting!!! The Thing is we are trying to revive it and in order to do that I feel promoters ought to support our agenda by pushing our artists as well. The big shows happening in Kenya in November and December include Konshens, Charly Black, NSG, Kranium ,Koffi Olomideh, Harmonize, Mbosso, and I'm told Cecil is also on her Way. My brother you guys are killing us,” posted Omondi.

He added: “Our musicians are weak and sickly. I feel like we need a little space to recover, rejuvinate and the promoters are not doing Anything to help!!! I have personally tabled a motion in our parliament to ensure we play 75% local because bro our radio and TV Stations only play foreign music. I totally have nothing against International artists, I am just trying to put our house in order.”
