Eric Omondi arrested while taking 3 million CVs to State House
Controversial comedian Eric Omondi was on
Tuesday arrested while heading to State House to deliver Curriculum Vitaes (CVs)
of jobless Kenyans.
Omondi
was marching towards the house on the hill by himself dragging a loaded
handcart full of the CVs, alongside a banner written ‘State House Express.’
Police
officers however caught up with him on Uhuru highway and placed him in custody.
“These
are peoples' CVs. I don't want to endanger the lives of other Kenyans. They are
3 million CVs with me here. I'm taking them to President William Ruto so that
he sees Kenyans that have gone to university yet they don't have jobs. I'm
going to State House alone," Omondi said as he pulled the
cart.
On February 22, the funnyman threatened to storm State House, further urging President Ruto and his Cabinet to take a 50 per cent pay cut for the next three months and set aside the funds collected to address the country's economic deficits.
“If you are a Kenyan and are unemployed but
you have a CV carry it with you. If you have not paid your rent, get an
official letter from the landlord and come as well. If you are a parent
na haujalipa fees go to your child's head teacher and get a stamped letter. We
are going to take these things to State House," he said then.
Omondi
is no stranger to controversy or police cells as he has recently been arrested while
protesting against the high cost of living outside Parliament. Days later, he
was again nabbed while distributing flour to his supporters at city stadium.
