Colonel Mustafas fresh claims on why he broke up with Marya
Controversial Kenyan rapper Colonel Mustafa has
resurfaced with new claims about his relationship with fellow musician and
ex-girlfriend Marya and why they actually broke up, contrary to the reason they
fed their fans years back.
Mustafa and Marya, after going their separate
ways nearly a decade ago, claimed contrasting religious beliefs was the cause
of their split then.
However, in a new interview, Mustafa now
claims he broke up with Marya due to infidelity rather than religion.
“It was all lies, it’s something we had to
create, there’s no way I’d say Marya left me and went, she went somewhere for
two weeks, she went to Tanzania and left me. When she came back I checked her
phone and found some unfavorable messages,” he said in the interview with SPM
Buzz.
He went on to say that, at the time, they sat
down and agreed that neither would destroy the other’s public reputation over
the break up, hence the religious differences excuse came into play.
"We sat down as a team and agreed and
decided that we would not ruin each other's names, so we came up with the
religion thing and at least that subsided, but it wasn't true," he
claimed.
"We dated for five years, but during
that time, we frequently quarreled. I did my best, but it was impossible.”
Mustafa also spoke about his departure from
the music industry, his absence from YouTube, and his change of heart to return
to the platform.
‘The reason for the change of heart was that
I was signed by Ogopa Deejays, and they hold the rights to all the music I have
created. So for me as an artist I have no rights because I was signed,” he
said.
“That's why I took time because I wanted to
stop making music and I was like what is there that I have not done; if it’s
taking flights I have and also endorsements I have done so I was like what’s
next?”
