Avril: Why I would not switch to gospel music soon

Celebrated Kenyan singer, Avril, has dismissed rumours that she was crossing over to gospel music.

Avril, who spoke to Citizen Digital at the Morgan Heritage Extravaganza concert held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre on Saturday, said at the moment she is comfortable singing secular music.

Speculations that the Hakuna Yule hit-maker had crossed over to the gospel world were rife in August after a video surfaced online showing the singer being prayed for by a preacher in Catholic University of Eastern Africa.

The man of God then asked Avril to repeat a repentance prayer after him, which she did.

Avril, however, later refuted claims that she had crossed over to gospel after blogs and showbiz sites reported she had converted.

The singer has now told Citizen Digital it could take longer before she switches to the ministry, if at all she will.

“For now, I am comfortable where I am. Ntaendelea kuimba ‘Nikimuona’, ‘Hakuna Yule’ until that day I will have true calling to minister. I don’t want to cross to gospel for business – I would want to do it to serve God, purely ministry!”

“I am sorry to say this: you know some gospel artistes pretend under the umbrella…in real sense, they are not as saved – I would not want to go the same way,” Avril said.

The singer also divulged that her much anticipated collabo with Tanzania’s ministry star, Christina Shusho, will drop some time 2016 in her new album.

Avril held an electrifying performance at the Morgan Heritage Extravaganza, charging the crowd with her elite, calculated and effortless dance moves.
