Uganda Airlines makes its first direct flight to Mombasa
Uganda Airlines made its first direct flight from Entebe, Uganda to Moi International Airport in Mombasa on Monday.
The acting Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Paul Turacayisenga said the direct flights to Mombasa will boost trade and tourism.
“The 1 hour 50-minute flight trip will play a vital role to thousands of Uganda traders who depend on the Port of Mombasa to do business considering more than 85 per cent of Uganda imported cargo pass through the port.
“The route will add value to travellers who used to spend more than three to four hours to fly from Entebbe connecting in Nairobi to Mombasa,” said Harvey Kalama, the airline’s operations manager.
The Monday flight– UR 342– which landed with 76 passengers, becomes the seventh route of the airline since it was revived in April with the first two bombardier aircraft.
Uganda Airlines embarked on full flight operations on August 27, 2019.
The airline is scheduled to fly to Mombasa three times a week, on Monday, Friday, and Sunday.
It has joined Rwanda another regional carrier, flying directly from Kigali to Mombasa.
