KQ delays US route return on flight cancellations

National carrier Kenya Airways has pushed back the return of direct US flights which was scheduled for Saturday to November 29.

In a notice published earlier on Saturday, the carrier attributed the push back to an acceleration of flight cancellations on the route.

“We regret to announce that due to increased cancellation of flight bookings to New York City, we have pushed back the resumption of the service to this destination to November 29,” the notice said.

The push back is expected to see KQ stay out of the new route further having last operated passenger flights on the course in early April.

COVID-19 led disruptions have seen the carrier struggle to grow demand on the route having only begun operations in October 2018.

KQ has previously been forced to right size operations on the route from low demand which becomes more pronounced in the winter season.

The carrier is yet to break even on the US route in a matter which has seen it eyes new intra-Africa destinations to grow traffic on the New York flights.
