Kenya Airports Authority chairman Awuondo appears before MPs

Kenya Airports Authority Chairman Isaac Awuondo has finally appeared before National Assembly’s transport committee after summons.

Awuondo was initially unavailable when KAA management team appeared before the David Pkosing led committee.

The committee is probing the Privately Initiated Investments Proposal (PIIP) by Kenya Airways to the Authority.

Earlier on KAA Managing Director Johnny Anderson caught himself in the MPs crossfire after he said Awuondo was not aware of the meeting.

“The chairman is unaware of this meeting and is therefore not available,” said Anderson to the chagrin of the committee.

“He is a person of interest in this thing and must appear before us,” committee chairman David Pkosing.

Awuondo is also the group CEO of CBA Bank, one of the banks that converted debts owed to it by Kenya Airways into shareholding.

KQ, as the national carrier is popular on Tuesday appeared before the same committee.

Led by Chairman Michael Joseph and Managing Director Sebastian Mikosz, the team defended the deal adding that it was one of the options available to return the airline into profitability.
