Polycarp Igathe back at Equity Bank as Chief Commercial Officer

Polycarp Igathe has made a return to Equity Group as the Chief Commercial Officer.

Confirming the re-appointment, Equity Group Managing Director James Mwangi expressed his excitement over the return of Igathe to the company six months after leaving for his former employer Vivo.

“We welcome Polycarp back to Equity and we are excited that he will continue with his role as the Group Chief Commercial Officer. A strong part of our Equity culture is keeping lasting relationships with our Equity family of staff and customers,” he said.

“They are always free to return to the family and bring new experiences that help to make the team stronger and more agile. Once a member, always a member.”

Vivo Energy revealed the departure of Igathe who served as the Executive Vice President in charge of sales for Africa last Friday.

Igathe is now expected to head the lender’s financial solutions growth strategy which focuses on business value chains for individual, business enterprises and enterprises.

“I left part of my heart in Equity, because I saw the immense potential it holds to transform Africa into a social economic powerhouse creating opportunities for wealth creation for our people through integrated financial services solutions,” he said.

“Indeed, financial services are at the heart of any social economic transformation. I have made a conscious decision to resume my role at Equity and continue what I started. I am glad that the board has given me another chance.”

Polycarp Igathe first joined Equity Group in May 2019 after a short stint of six months at City Hall as the Deputy Governor of Nairobi County.

Previously, Igathe served as Vivo Energy Managing Director for Kenya between February 2013 and May 2017.

His intrigues of landing one job after another has been the subject of amusement with many Kenyans expressing bemusement over his high jobs turnover.

Polycarp Igathe holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and sociology from the University of Nairobi and an advanced management program course from Strathmore University.
