ICDC in PPP deal for industrial park in Eldoret
Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation (ICDC) has entered into a public private partnership agreement with the Uasin Gishu County Government for the construction of an industrial park.
The industrial park will be located in Eldoret will occupy 135 acres focusing more on agro processing and textile production.
In details submitted to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) , the park will be divided into five clusters focusing commercial heavy and light manufacturing, research and service and logistics.
“This part is largely envisaged to be an Agro-Industrial Park,” NEMA said in a gazette notice.
NEMA has invited members of the public to submit comments on the industrial park before giving its seal of approval.
ICDC plans to reach out to Moi University, Kenya Industrial Research Development institute and the Kenya Association of Manufacturers’ (KAM) research division to set up the research ad incubation centers at the park.
The proposed industrial park is expected to provide physical and business development services facilities to support the local and foreign enterprises and facilitate their growth in various industrial sub sectors such as agro-processing, agro-machinery, as well as support services sectors.
The government through the Vision 2030 secretariat has plans to construct industrial parks across the country to support small and medium sized enterprises.
The secretariat has acquired 20 acres in Taita Taveta to set up a fruit juice and vegetable oil processing plant as well as an agro processing plant for fish, vegetables and horticulture in Kisumu.
