Hemingways re-opens Nairobi, Watamu Properties after two-month hiatus

Hotel chain Hemingways has re-opened its Nairobi and Watu Properties after a two-month hiatus forced upon by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The re-opening which becomes effective from Tuesday follows the management fulfilment of of the government COVID-19 containment protocols.

“The Covid-19 preventative measures we have adopted in our properties go above and beyond the minimum government standards to offer complete comfort and security to our guests while ensuring the unique experience of staying at Hemingways Collection is retained,” said Hemingways Collection Group CEO Alastair Addison.

“As a group, we are positive that Hemingways Nairobi’s and Watamu’s re-opening will be a breath of fresh air within the hospitality industry considering how hard we have been hit as a sector and a positive in charting our path to recovery. We know it won’t be easy but we are delighted to, once again, be welcoming guests.”

Hemingways, Ol Seki Mara property will however remain shut but the chain expected operations on the location to also resume shortly.

The hotel chain shut down operations in Nairobi and at Ol Seki Mara at the end of March due to the ongoing global health emergency and subsequently closed doors in Watamu.

However, the chain did not declare any redundancies as it retained over 400 members of staff across its hotels.

The return of Hemingways marks a glimmer of hope for the ailing hospitality industry which has taken a major battering from COVID-19 mitigation measures.
