CBK unveils its fourth currency centre in Kisii

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has launched its fourth currency centre in Kisii town.

The new centre is expected to support the reserve bank’s currency services which mainly involve the distribution of notes and coins to commercial banks across the country.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony on Wednesday, CBK Governor Dr. Patrick Njoroge says the new centre is expected to smoothen banking operations for seven counties covering the Western Kenya region.

“All county governments will get better services from this centre. This is the newest of our centres at the CBK. The centre will push the kind of economic growth we want to see in the region,” he said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta who oversaw the event said he expects the centre to anchor the access of government institutions to banking services.

“Going forward, it will be much easier for government institutions including County governments to operate in a much smoother and economic manner,” he said.

The CBK operates other currency centres in Nyeri, Nakuru and Meru.

It also has fully fledged branches in Eldoret, Mombasa and Kisumu in addition to its headquarters in Nairobi.

The branches and currency centres are seen as key focal points for currency distribution to local financial institutions.
