President Uhuru turns 60
Uhuru Kenyatta turns 60 years on 26 October 2021.
Uhuru Kenyatta was born to Mama Ngina Kenyatta and Jomo Kenyatta, the first president of Kenya.
Hospital records show that Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta was born at 11:10am on October 26, 1961.
Fredah Shibonje, is the nurse who was in charge at Agha Khan hospital, where Uhuru was born.
Fredah Shibonje said in an earlier interview with The Daily Nation, that during that day, she saw both Jomo Kenyatta and the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga rush into the hospital alongside Mama Ngina.
For his primary school education, the president attended St. Mary’s school in Nairobi and even played for the schools’ rugby team as a winger.
For his university studies, the president studied political science and economics at Amherst College in Massachusetts.
After his studies, before getting into politics eventually, the president started a horticulture business that became successful.
President Kenyatta got married to Margaret Gakuo Kenyatta in 1991 and had three children Jomo, Jaba, and Ngina Kenyatta.
The presidents’ first try in politics was in 1997 where he became the chairman of his hometown (Gatundu) branch of the then ruling party, KANU.
Uhuru Kenyatta later, in that same year, contested for a parliamentary seat however he lost.
Despite losing, the then president, who greatly believed in his political ambitions, would later appoint him as the chairman of the Kenya Tourist Board.
In 2002, the Former president Daniel Arap Moi backed Kenyatta as the presidential candidate of the party however he lost.
After backing Mwai Kibaki’s presidency in 2007, Kenyatta was appointed deputy prime minister and Minister of Finance.
Kenyatta would later be accused by the International Criminal Court (ICC) alongside William Samoei Ruto and four other people of causing the 2007-2008 post election violence which led to the deaths of over 1,000 people.
The charges were however withdrawn due to insufficient charges.
In 2013, Kenyatta ran to become president under his new party The National Alliance (TNA) where he won and has been serving as President of Kenya since then.
