A third year student at Murang’a University of Agriculture and Technology died after taking poison following a disagreement with his girlfriend over the course of their relationship.

21-year-old Derrick Kiprop, a Software Engineering student, is said to have quarreled with his girlfriend, a Mathematics and Economics student at the same institution, who wanted a brief break from their relationship.

Sammy Nyamita, a fellow student, said he found Kiprop writhing in pain along the streets near the hostels whilst shouting that he was about to die.

Nyamita added that the said girlfriend wanted some “space” from the relationship to sort out her own family issues, only for the deceased to decline and say that he could not allow their three-month old relationship to end like that.

Kiprop was taken to a nearby clinic before being transferred to Murang’a Level Five Hospital where he was admitted immediately but later succumbed.

Joseph Ngando Mwangi, a doctor at the hospital, said that the deceased had consumed quite a substantial amount of poison and their efforts to resuscitate him proved futile.

The body of the Rift Valley-born student remains at Murang’a Level Five Hsopital awaiting the arrival of his parents whom have already been informed of his untimely demise.
