Twenty nine year-old Western Stima forward Wesley Kemboi has won the SJAK September Player of the Month Award.
The veteran who’s hot scoring streak powered the Kisumu County based club to third on the log, ensured the Sh100,000 and coveted 43 LG Smart Television which comes with the gong, remained in the club following teenager Kenneth Muguna’s triumph in August.
Kemboi beat Gor Mahia’s George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo and Allan Wanga by a big margin in a vote conducted by football writers.
That the initial list of nominees had three players from Western Stima indicates the industry among players from Henry Omino’s side.
Muguna and defender Joash Onyango however, failed to to get into three man shortlist leaving Kemboi to battle withWanga and Odhiambo.
Kemboi garnered eighteen points, edging Odhiambo who came second on eleven points while Wanga was third on 7 points.
Kemboi’s scored match winning goals against AFC leopards and City Stars in Stima’s only league fixtures during the month. His victory capped a stunning Coach and Player of the month double for Wstern Stima as Henry Omino was last week crown September’s best coach.
After a slow start to the season marred by injuries, the player whose top flight career started in 2011 looks to the future with promise.
“I’m happy to have been deemed best player in September and i want to keep working hard and smart to be among the best,” Kemboi said as he eyes a return to Harambee Stars.
He played for Kenya under Frenchman Henry Michel in a friendly against South Africa but has not caught the eye of current youthful Stars technical bench.
“I do not want to state my desire by mere words. My work on the pitch should speak for me and catch the eyes of current technical bench. If i continue scoring and playing well i’m sure there will be space for me in the national team.
