Six months after launching an Artificial
Intelligence (AI) powered DJ in international markets, digital music streaming
service Spotify is now bringing the heavily-anticipated feature to Kenya.
The company, in a statement dated August 8, 2023, announced that it is rolling out DJ, in Beta, to Premium users in the country.
This follows its successful launch in the
United States, Canada, UK and Ireland in February this year, to much excitement
from the app's users.
Spotify says DJ will take personalization to
the next level by connecting artists and fans in a deeper, more meaningful way.
“DJ is a
personalized AI guide that knows you and your music taste so well that it can
choose what to play for you,” read the statement.
“This
feature, first rolling out in Beta, will deliver a curated line-up of music
alongside commentary around the tracks and artists we think you’ll like in a
stunningly realistic voice.”
Listeners will have the option to hear
English language commentary from the initial voice model, Spotify’s own Head of Cultural
Partnerships, Xavier ‘X’ Jernigan, the first voice model for the DJ.
A user can find their personal AI DJ by
opening the Spotify mobile app on their iOS or Android device, then head over
to Music Feed on Home and tap play on DJ.
Besides Kenya, Spotify has since also
launched the AI DJ in at least 50 other countries, among them African nations
such as; Botswana, Burundi, Gambia, Ghana, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia,
Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania.
