Kisauni MP Rashid Bezimba confirmed the incident and called on the county and national governments to work together to fight insecurity in the county.

Human Rights Activists led by Hussein Khalid and Khelif Khalifa said that rising cases of insecurity in Mombasa are causing tension and urged area leaders to dialogue to find a lasting solution.

The incident comes barely a month after another police officer attached at the Central Police Station in Mombasa was shot by gunmen who were on a motorbike along the busy Haile Selassie avenue at around 9.30 pm.

Mombasa County residents have since decried the state of insecurity in the region.

They are now urging the government to intervene and help beef up security in the area.
