Tusker out to gore Wazito, dislodge Gor from the league summit
Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano is wary of the physicality posed by struggling Wazito FC when the two sides collide tomorrow at Ruaraka stadium.
The Brewers are second on the log on 51 points, two shy of
leaders Gor Mahia and victory over the relegation-threatened side will see them
dislodge record league winners from the summit of the table.
“We have 11 matches to go. We will continue working hard.
Wazito are a good, physical team and determined; I watched them. They also have
experienced players but we will plan for them,” said Matano.
The brewers were handed a boost when Gor Mahia drew 2-2
against Posta Rangers on Sunday as Tusker edged stubborn Kenya Police FC 1-0 to
cut the margin to two points. The battle will bring together a team eyeing a
top spot, Tusker, and one battling relegation. The games are running out and
the Charles Odera coached Wazito which
have tasted victory twice needs to find something incredible to bounce back.
The Ruaraka-based club’s consistency has been something to
marvel at this season. They have won the last five consecutive matches setting
the bar week in, week out. Their good responses, fast starts and dramatic
finishes has left them boasting for the incredible performance as they collect
maximum points in every game.
Matano also believes in his players’ capability and
determination ahead of the much awaited clash, he said: “I pray that we maintain the same consistency
and we will get points.”
Matano’s men have been piling pressure on Gor as they aim to retain the silverware and seem to bore fruits with 11 matches to go. Matano’s side are second in the log with 51 points, two behind 19-time champions K’Ogalo but the defending champions have a game in hand.
