Kariobangi Sharks head coach William Muluya believes his side is good enough to finish the season strongly after a poor start in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League.

Muluya said his players have shown some maturity in the last few games something they can use to get better results in the remaining matches before the end of the season.

“Other matches are coming up, and the league is almost coming to an end. We need to finish in a better position now that we can’t lift the title. There is maturity that has been displayed in the team even though some of our players are playing in the league for the first time and this can help us get results. We don’t want to stay in our current position for long,” Muluya said.

Sharks edged struggling Mathare United 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Kasarani Annex to record their ninth win of the season. The win now puts them in the eleventh position with 36 points on the table after playing 27 league matches.

Muluya expressed his satisfaction and delight after winning the dramatic battle that was decided by Tyson Otieno’s two penalties. He also raised an issue with his defence which has been slippery for quite some time.

“We have been longing for a victory after a long drought of goals. We were not sure whether we would win the match.

It is now time to focus on the FKF Cup which is coming on Sunday. Our players create a lot of chances but we fail to defend our victory, and that’s an area we need to work on,” he said.

Muluya’s players are currently preparing to play Kakamega Homeboyz in the FKF Cup quarterfinals on Sunday at MISC Kasarani. Sharks got into the quarterfinals after edging Equity FC 1-0 in the round of 16.
