Leopards protest FKF sanctions for fan chaos and urge review
AFC Leopards
chairman Dan Shikanda has expressed his disappointment following the decision
by Football Kenya Federation to sanction the club.
FKF’s
Leagues and Competitions Committee slapped Leopards with a three-point
deduction and a half-a-million-shilling fine over Sunday’s fan chaos at the
Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.
The
committee also handed the domestic giants a four-game stadium ban among other
sanctions after their fans invaded the pitch and assaulted referee Michael
Obuya.
“We express
our deep disappointment and concern over the unfair decision of the FKF League
and Competitions Committee. We expect a fair and impartial hearing when our
team’s interests are at stake like now. We urge the FKF to review and
reconsider the decision,” said Shikanda.
Obuya was
injured in the process as fans protested his officiating, forcing him to call a
premature end to the game featuring Kakamega Homeboyz.
Homeboyz,
who led 1-0 up until the point the game was aborted, were awarded all three
points on a three-points, two-goals win basis.
Ingwe thus dropped
into the seventh place with 37 points while Homeboyz ascend in the ninth
position with 35 points.
Leopards play
KCB on Saturday as Homeboyz take on strugglers Vihiga Bullets.
