Police launch hunt for owner of building that collapsed killing woman in Kirinyaga
Kirinyaga County Police Commander Andrew Naibei said the owner of the building Milicent Wamutira was not picking up her phone, urging her to surrender to the nearest police station for formal processing.
The police commander, who was accompanied by Kirinyaga Deputy Governor David Wachira, was speaking after visiting the scene of the collapsed building which caused the death of Lydia Nyawira Mugo.
The police boss said the two children aged 16 and 10 years who escaped unhurt were sleeping in separate rooms.
"The whole building went down and partially destroyed a permanent building owned by the deceased," police commander Andrew Naibei said.
Kirinyaga Deputy David Wachira Kithanda said a technical team had commenced investigations to establish whether the building collapsed due to floods or poor workmanship.
"By tomorrow we will know what happened... we would like to assure you that we are going to investigate this incident as we wait for the owner of the building and if we find he violated the stipulated rules of construction, action will be taken," said the deputy governor.
