Building collapses in Kahawa West, occupants feared trapped
Confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross and the Nairobi County Government said they have dispatched response teams to the area.
Nairobi County Executive Built Environment Patrick Mbogo has noted that occupants residing in adjacent buildings will also be evacuated as a precaution procedure.
The building with an unknown number of occupants houses residential units and businesses, including an Equity Afia clinic.
Reports indicate that occupants were warned just hours before the building came down, raising serious questions about the approval process and construction standards.
The building occupied for less than a month is now a centre of a rescue mission, with questions on how it was approved, and the persons responsible for ensuring safety.
