Singer Okello Max wows fans with John Legends nervous open verse challenge

Kenyan singer and songwriter Okello Max has jumped into the open verse challenge of John Legend’s new song, ‘Nervous’.  

In snippet shared on his social media, Okello spiced up John Legend’s song with Swahili and dholuo lyrics. 

“Due to public demand from fellow Kenyans, I hopped onto Legend Nervous open verse challenge I hope it suites your ear bud,” he shared. 

The ‘Nakufa’ hitmaker received praise from his fans, who tagged Legend in their comments hoping he would notice the song.

The open verse challenge has become viral on social media, with African musicians jumping in to show their vocal prowess. 

The American singer and songwriter, opened the stage for other artists to “pass the mic” and add a beat or lyrics to his song. 

South African singer and songwriter Mthandazo Gatya has already won the heart of Legend after his rendition of the Nervous song went viral. 

In a concert in South Africa, Legend invited Gatya to perform with him on stage. 

Following their first performance over the weekend, the pair took to the stage again in a pre-recorded video performance that was played at the Global Citizen Festival, held simultaneously in New York City and Accra, Ghana.

‘’It isn’t just him calling me to perform with him that moved me but how he made sure everybody knows I’m the reason he’s gone viral in SA,thank you @johnlegend for allowing God to use to you to elevate me,thank you again’’ Gatya said.
