Two DCI officers arrested for allegedly demanding Ksh.500K bribe to drop murder case

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested two Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers in Kipkelion, Kericho County, over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe to terminate a murder case.

The two officers, identified as Corporals Wesley Korir and Christopher Maina, were arrested on Thursday after allegedly demanding Ksh.500,000 from a complainant in exchange for dropping the murder case against him.

According to the EACC, its officers mounted an operation following preliminary investigations into the allegations.

The two DCI officers were arrested while allegedly receiving Ksh.120,000, which investigators say was part of the amount they had demanded.

Korir and Maina were subsequently processed at the EACC South Rift Regional Office and later released on a cash bail of Ksh.30,000 each pending the completion of investigations.

The anti-graft agency said the arrests form part of its efforts to curb corruption within public institutions, urging members of the public to report cases of bribery and other forms of corruption through its official channels.
