A 53-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly setting his 8-year-old grandson on fire in Kalimatula village in Machakos County.

The area Assistant chief  Joseph Sila said the man reportedly poured paraffin on the boy and set him on fire after he allegedly stole one hundred shillings from him.

Doctors say he sustained serious burns and is admitted at Matuu level 4 hospital.

Early this year a 35-year-old man was sentenced to 3 years in prison for setting his 8-year-old son on fire after he allegedly stole bread and soda in Kayaba slums in Nairobi. Elsewhere, a mother who accused her son of stealing 50 shillings tied his hands, and doused him in kerosene and set him on fire last year in Kwale.
