Githurai 45: Congestion hurting businesses and movement of people

Residents of Githurai 45 are increasingly getting worried over congestion along the Githurai's Mwihoko road.

According to the residents, the congestion is grossly affecting movement of people and vehicles in the area.

Also affected due to the congestion are businesses lining the busy roadside.  

“The presence of hawkers on either side of the road has been the main cause of congestion,” said Kamau Mutahi, a boda boda rider in the area.

“We are asking the County government of Kiambu to move the hawkers to a suitable market space to ease congestion in this area,” added Mutahi.

Residents told Wananchi Reporting that it is very difficult to walk or drive on the stretch especially in the mornings and late in the evenings.

Others have reported cases of muggings – with criminals finding it easy to melt into the crowds.

The narrow road is said to be shared by hundreds of public service vehicles, personal vehicles, motorbikes, pedestrians and traders – all of them competing for a piece of the road.

Residents are asking the county government to expand the road.
